Sours & Lambics – Beer Reviews

The Bruery Oude Tart – Day 57

the-bruery-oude-tart

I am a huge fan of chicken and waffles.  What is better than crispy fried chicken, a fluffy waffle, sweet maple syrup, and spicy hot sauce?  In my opinion…not much.  This means that I am constantly in search of amazing chicken and waffles.  Sadly, the best version that I have ever had tasted was at a restaurant that has since gone out of business.  Thus, my search continues.  Here is what I need to deem a restaurant as having the yummiest chicken and waffles:

1. Crispy Fried Chicken – When I bite into a piece of fried chicken, I want…

Cantillon Fou’ Foune

Fou' Foune

Certain beers bring back memories for me every time I drink them.  This particular Cantillon brings back memories of the first time I tried it, sitting on the patio at the Beer Engine in Lakewood back in 2009 (thank you Jason Presser) and again when my wonderful husband proposed later that year.  It is one of my favorite beers of all time.  There are a ton of beers out there that I love, but this is one of those beers that I can’t get enough of.  This Lambic style of beer is not for the faint of heart.   It’s pretty…

Maui Brewing and Jolly Pumpkin Sobrehumano Palena ‘ole – Day 43

sobrehumano final

Maui Brewing and Jolly Pumpkin collaborated to create Sobrehumano Palena ’Ole, a red ale brewed with liliko’i (passion fruit) and Michigan cherries.  The brewers crafted this ale while visiting each other’s breweries.  Do not assume that because the brewers worked together that these beers will taste the same.   If you didn’t know that this was a collaboration beer, you wouldn’t recognize that these beers are related in any way.

This is not by accident however.  Even though the beer was crafted by both brewers, they chose to ferment in a totally different way which allows for a uniqueness…

Goose Island Juliet – Day 19

juliet

I’m certainly not having a problem drinking at least one beer a day.  Yesterday, I had 4 different beers.  But I am sometimes having a problem with wanting to write.

Sunday is usually a pretty relaxed day in our household.  We wake up whenever (although it’s usually around 7:30), sit around for a while, read the paper, maybe exercise, and then head out to our bar.  I call it our bar because we have been there every Sunday for the last two years, minus 2-3 times when we weren’t in the state.   We get brunch, possibly stay for dinner, and…

Brouwerij Verhaeghe Echt Kriekenbier

Brouwerij Verhaeghe Echte Kriekenbier

Road trips are a great way to find new beers because every state gets different breweries in their distribution area. While at a friend’s wedding in Virginia I stumbled across this beer and couldn’t wait to open it. Its a Flanders Red which is one of my favorite styles. Flanders Red’s are typically lightly to heavily sour with flavors that range from vinegar (trust me, in a good way) to cherry and chocolate. Let’s see how this one measures up.

Its a dirty plum color with hints of crimson and brown. There is a white ring of head around the…
