Surly Coffee Bender – Day 6

Mondays are the worst!  It doesn’t matter how early I go to bed on Sunday or how busy I am during the day, I am always destroyed when I get home from work on a Monday.  Often that means by 8:30 I am asleep on the couch, much to Steve’s chagrin.  My other, more preferred option, is napping.

If there was such a career, I would definitely be a professional napper.  If there was a super-power of napping, I would be a member of the Justice League.  I’m not sure how that would entail me to fight crime, but that is what I am best at.

Within 2 minutes of stating the claim that I am going to take a nap, I am asleep. I can tell Steve that I need 10 minutes, and the majority of the time, I will fall asleep and wake myself up within that time frame.  When I wake up from a 10 or 15 minute nap, I am refreshed and ready for whatever.  My couch is the most amazing place to nap.  It is soft and comfortable and has molded itself to my body.  I know that we will need to buy a new one soon, and I’ve already warned Steve that I will need to nap on it in the store before purchasing.

But I digress.  Mondays are sleepy evenings for sure.  So this Monday, I am going to consume a delicious Coffee Bender and pretend that it is really coffee.

Surly Coffee Bender

There are many variations of coffee beers available.  These usually come in the form of stouts, porters, or brown ales, which Coffee Bender is.  Coffee beers are also made in a variety of ways. Goose Island ages their Bourbon County Stout in bourbon barrels with coffee added.  Espresso Oak-Aged Yeti by Great Divide is aged on oak chips with coffee added.  Bell’s Java Stout is a stout brewed with coffee. Coffee Bender is Surly’s Bender Brown Ale steeped for 24 hours in coarse ground coffee beans.

In my opinion, Surly is one of the best for true coffee flavor.  If you didn’t know that it was beer, you might truly believe that you were drinking a mug of black coffee.  It has the aroma, the thinness (because it is a brown ale as opposed to a stout), and the after taste of a quality iced-coffee.  If you are a coffee fan, I highly recommend finding and purchasing a few cans of Coffee Bender.  Just don’t try to drink one before work.  No matter how much it tastes like coffee, sadly, it isn’t coffee.
